HDTV Heads-Up: August 18-24
TV One is prematurely dumping season two of Episodes after only two episodes to launch its own entertainment industry spoof, Auckland Daze.
Originally an online series, it will screen in HD from August 23 in a relatively late slot but one that should benefit from having the hugely popular Mrs Brown’s Boys as its lead-in.
According to TVNZ publicity, Auckland Daze follows four hapless wannabes – a model, a stuntman, a dwarf entertainer and a stand-up comedian – who are all chasing fame in Auckland’s ridiculously small entertainment industry.
The cast includes Millen Baird (The Millen Baird Show), Jennifer Ward-Lealand (The Jaquie Brown Diaries), Fasi Amosa (Sione’s Wedding), Jimmy James Fletcher (Jono’s New Show), Natalie Medlock (Shortland Street) and Glen Levy, the stuntman described by National Geographic as “the 20th deadliest man on the planet”.
There also will be celebrity guest turns by the likes of Craig Parker, Anna Hutchison, Johnny Barker, Brendhan Lovegrove and Anna Julienne.
Also of note in HD for the week starting August 18:
